RESUMO Uma análise realista de um tema emocional, o 13 de Maio, mostrando erros dos que superestimam e dos que subestimam o centenário da Abolição. Apresenta-se, em síntese, uma visão histórica sobre a Princesa Isabel, a família imperial, o último ministério monárquico, as implicações e conseqüências da Abolição para que não ficasse restrita ao aspecto jurídico formal. Mostra ainda os aspectos reformistas do abolicionismo de Joaquim Nabuco, Rui Barbosa e André Rebouças, com suas advertências ainda hoje válidas. ABSTRACT The thirteenth of May: Beyond of one ephemerides. v. 16, n. 1, p. 39-43, jan./jun. 1988. A realistic analysis of the emotional theme, the thirteenth of May, showing mistakes of those who valorizes and those who doesn’t give any value to the Abolition centenary. It is presented in synthesis a historical vision about Isabel, the Princess, the Imperial Family, the last monarchic ministry, the implications and consequences of Abolition in order not to be restricted to the juridical-formal aspect. It still shows the reformist aspects of Joaquim Nabuco’s abolitionism, Rui Barbosa’s and André Rebouças’s with their advertences, still valuable in our days. Une analyse réaliste d’un théme émouvant, le 13 Mai montre les erreurs commis par tous ceux qui ont surestimé ou sous-estimé le centenaire de l’Abolition. L’auteur présente, en synthèse, une vision historique sur la Princesse Isabelle, la famille impériale, le dernier ministère monarchique, les implications et les conséquences de ‘Abolition, afin que ce mouvement ne soit pas seulement restreint à un aspect juridico-formel. Il présente encore les aspects réformistes de l’abolitionnisme de Joaquim Nabuco, de Rui Barbosa et d’André Rebouças et leurs avertissements valables encore aujourd’hui.
