Resumo: The current article deals the relationship between the themes of musical education and citizenship upbringing. The purpose is to discuss the citizen’s concept and to articulate such concept with the elements that constitute object of the musical education. By means of the contents analysis, therefore the concepts of musical education and citizenship are discussed, and also the legal aspects which rule the music teaching in the current Brazilian’s legislation are seen. O objetivo é discutir o conceito de cidadão e articular tal conceito com os elementos que constituem objeto da educação musical. Por meio da análise de conteúdo, portanto são discutidos os conceitos de educação musical, cidadania e também são vislumbrados os aspectos legais que regem o ensino da música na atual legislação brasileira.
