Resumo: The Happiness Dilemma: between philosophical reflection and scientific measurement   Abstract: This article discusses the theme of happiness from a philosophical point of view and from the point of view of scientific measurement. Initially, it presents the key concepts that involve the theory of happiness treated by the Spanish philosopher Julián Marías. The philosopher is surprised by the little intellectual interest in happiness. However, he recognizes the methodological difficulty of studying the subject, seeing the intention to measure it as a problematic object. On the other hand, nowadays, happiness is treated as a science since it gains support in utilitarian ideas. Such ideas about happiness allow a scientific "treatment", finding support between governments and large companies, mainly technology companies, such as Big Tech's. So, can Julian Marías and his essays on happiness appear and occupy the field of philosophy, being possible a dialogue and a reflection, from the Spanish philosopher, with the science of happiness? That is the challenge of this article.

Apresenta, inicialmente, os conceitos-chave que envolvem a teoria da felicidade tratada pelo filósofo espanhol Julián Marías. O filósofo, surpreende-se do pouco interesse intelectual sobre a felicidade. No entanto, reconhece a dificuldade metodológica do estudo do tema, vendo como um objeto problemático a intenção de mensurá-la. Por outro lado, contemporaneamente, a felicidade é tratada como ciência, já que ganha respaldo nas ideias utilitaristas. Tais ideias sobre felicidade permitem um “tratamento” científico, encontrando respaldo entre governos e grandes empresas, principalmente empresas de tecnologia, como as Big Tech’s. Assim, Julian Marías e seus ensaios sobre felicidade podem aparecer e ocupar o campo da filosofia, sendo possíveis um diálogo e uma reflexão, a partir do filósofo espanhol, com a ciência da felicidade?
