Resumo: Overweight and obesity are growing problems all over the world. The obese people proportion grows substantially, increasing the risk for the development of chronic-degenerative diseases. The objective of this study was to develop an anthropometric nutritional evaluation in male teenagers from Pelotas – RS – Brazil, between July and October 2000. Daily, during the exam of health for the army recruitment, the following measures were taken from the boys: weight, height and triceps skinfold and subescapular skinfold. There were analysed 2229 boys, 5.7% of them showed risk of overweight and 8.0% obesity. Among the obese individuals, 36.5% presented larger deposition of subcutaneous fat. Therefore, we observed that as much as the body mass index increased, the subcutaneous fatty deposition had also increased.

A proporção de obesos cresce substancialmente, aumentando o risco para o desenvolvimento de doenças crônico-degenerativas. O objetivo deste estudo foi uma avaliação nutricional antropométrica de adolescentes do sexo masculino no município de Pelotas/RS, no período de julho a outubro de 2000. Diariamente, durante o exame de saúde do exército, eram tomadas medidas de peso, altura e pregas cutâneas tricipital e subescapular. Foi realizada antropometria em 2229 meninos; destes, 5,7% apresentaram risco de sobrepeso e 8,0% obesidade. Entre os indivíduos obesos, 36,5% apresentaram maior deposição de gordura subcutânea.
