Resumo: | Abstract Sepsis is a clinical condition resulting from a dysregulated host inflammatory response to an infection, giving rise to organ dysfunction. Despite efforts to reduce mortality, sepsis is still a major public health problem. The study aimed to investigate the trend for sepsis in elderly people in Brazil in the period 2010-2020. Ecological study of time series. With data extracted from DATASUS. Mortality data of elderly people aged 60-69, 70-79 and > 80 years due to sepsis in the analyzed period were included, totaling 143,824 cases. Data analysis was performed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) program. Version 18.0, statistical analysis by simple linear regression, p<0.05. There was an increase in the general rate in Brazil, from 44.61 (2010) to 54.15/100,000 inhabitants (2020). For males, there was a variation from 46.43 (2010) to 56.96 (2020) and for females, from 33.88 (2010) to 53.00 (2020). As for the elderly >80, it went from 150.94 (2010) to 186.46 (2020). In relation to the Brazilian regions, with the exception of the North region, which maintained stability (Beta = -0.18; p = 0.615), in all the others there was an upward trend. The Southeast region had the highest mortality rates from sepsis in the period, with a tendency to increase by 1.44 per year (p=0.001). There was an increase in the trend of mortality from sepsis in the elderly in Brazil, both overall and according to sex, age group, age group by sex and regions of Brazil. Keywords: Sepsis. Elderly.
