Resumo: I propose in this paper the plausibility of a competence qualified as argumentative; I take, then, the concept of argumentation from Language Argumentation Theory, that is, the notion settled on a semantic-enunciative perspective. On the other hand, I regard a concept of competence as intersubjectivity, comprising both pragmatist and communicative views, and social practice, comprising the sociological view. My purpose is based on the analysis of data from aphasic subjects. The concern, in these terms, on aphasia – language impairment caused by brain lesion –, precisely for the premise that the non-integrity of language does not silence these subjects discursively, is a position that challenges the Chomskyan postulate relatively to the notion of competence
