Resumo: | An ethnobotanical study searching for medicinal plants used by residents and the Community Health Agents from the Family Health Office of Ponta Grossa neighborhood, Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul was carried out. The social and cultural information of all interviewers were established using structured interviews. The information about medicinal plants and their therapeutic uses were obtained by semi-structured interviews. The community people use 150 species, distributed in 59 botanical families. Most species are included in the Asteraceae and Lamiaceae families. Leaves and aerial parts are the portions of the plants most used and tea is the form mainly used. The diseases or symptoms most mentioned are those related to the digestive and nervous systems. The popular names were analyzed, where 56 species with ethno-homonyms and 73 species with true or false ethno-synonymous were found. |

As entrevistas, estruturadas, na forma de questionários para obtenção de dados socioculturais e semi-estruturadas, para o levantamento dos dados sobre as plantas, resultaram na coleta de 150 espécies, pertencentes a 59 famílias. As famílias com maior número de espécies foram Asteraceae e Lamiaceae. As partes das plantas mais utilizadas foram folhas e partes aéreas, sendo o chá a principal forma de utilização. As doenças e/ou sintomas mais mencionados foram os relacionados aos aparelhos digestório e respiratório. Os nomes populares foram analisados, tendo sido encontradas 56 espécies com etno-homônimos e 73 espécies com etno-sinônimos verdadeiros ou falsos.Iheringia.
