Resumo: The riverine forests of Camaquã River are the largest remnants of this forest type in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and are structurally little known. The arboreal component of a fragment of this forest alongside the Camaquã River, Municipality of Cristal, was studied aiming to describe the structure and compare it to other forests in the same region. The phytosociological survey was carried out within a 1 ha plot, where all trees with DBH ≥ 5 cm were sampled. The usually used phytosociological descriptors were estimated, besides diversity (H’) and equability (J’). The total sample surveyed 2,179 individuals belonging to 29 species and 14 families. The highest importance values were recorded for Sebastiania commersoniana (Baill.) L.B. Sm. & Downs, Allophylus edulis (St.-Hil. et al.) Radlk. and Eugenia schuechiana O. Berg, and the estimated diversity index was 2.342 nats.ind-1 (J’ = 0.695). The riverine forest of Camaquã river is placed into the same low richness context of other riparian forests in Rio Grande do Sul and Uruguay.

Iheringia.
