Resumo: | Dentoalveolar trauma is classified as a high-prevalence injury in childhood, caused by falls, sports accidents, among other situations, to which children are more prone due to their development, including falls from their own height when learning to walk. This article aimed to review the literature regarding dental trauma in childhood and its risk factors, classification, and effects on permanent dentition. The results showed that malocclusion type and lack of lip protection are among the predisposing factors, specifically anterior open bite, Angle Class II Division 1, and mouth breathing. The time elapsed between trauma and dental care significantly influences the patient's prognosis, thus requiring immediate dental consultation upon trauma occurrence. Another important point to consider is the late sequelae of trauma, leading to effects on permanent dentition, with enamel hypoplasia being among the most prevalent. Therefore, it is concluded that early identification and treatment are essential to reduce the impact of dentoalveolar traumas. Basic knowledge about the topic, by parents and/or caregivers of the child as well as schools, is also essential for treatment success. |

The time elapsed between trauma and dental care significantly influences the patient's prognosis, thus requiring immediate dental consultation upon trauma occurrence. Therefore, it is concluded that early identification and treatment are essential to reduce the impact of dentoalveolar traumas. Basic knowledge about the topic, by parents and/or caregivers of the child as well as schools, is also essential for treatment success.O traumatismo dento-alveolar é classificado como injúrias de alta prevalência na infância, causadas por quedas, acidentes esportivos, entre outras situações, as quais estão mais propensas, devido ao seu desenvolvimento, incluindo quedas da própria altura, ao aprenderem a andar. Specialized Dentistry Group2024-02-05info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/141010.36557/2674-8169.2024v6n2p84-501Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 6 No. 2 (2024): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 84-501Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 6 Núm. 2 (2024): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 84-501Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; v. 6 n. 2 (2024): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 84-5012674-8169reponame:Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciencesinstname:Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)instacron:GOEporhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/1410/1594Copyright (c) 2024 Victor Cavalcanti dos Santos , Ana Luiza Pessoa Girão , Camilla Cardoso Ramos , Emylly Evyn Oliveira da Silva Matos Lima , Isabella Erik de Freitas , Layla Allana Dias Pinto Torres , Lívia Maria Santos Laranjeiras , Magali Lorena Dantas Gusmão , Sarah Nathiely Santos de Abreu , Mayza Correia Rodrigues, Victor D’Bruno Souza Nascimento , Rafaela Brito Vasconcelos.https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessSantos , Victor Cavalcanti dos Girão , Ana Luiza PessoaRamos , Camilla CardosoLima , Emylly Evyn Oliveira da Silva MatosFreitas , Isabella Erik deTorres , Layla Allana Dias PintoLaranjeiras , Lívia Maria SantosGusmão , Magali Lorena DantasAbreu , Sarah Nathiely Santos de Rodrigues, Mayza CorreiaNascimento , Victor D’Bruno SouzaVasconcelos., Rafaela Brito2024-02-05T17:21:53Zoai:ojs.bjihs.emnuvens.com.br:article/1410Revistahttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihsONGhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/oaijournal.bjihs@periodicosbrasil.com.br2674-81692674-8169opendoar:2024-02-05T17:21:53Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences - Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)false |
