Resumo: | Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain syndrome manifested in the musculoskeletal and. Integrative and Complementary Practices in Health (PICS), such as meditation, offer humanized care through multidisciplinary care. The meditative practice can be effective in treatment of patients with fibromyalgia. The study’s objective is to understand the effects of meditation as a PICS and evaluate the changes on pain, sleep quality and quality of life through the meditative practice in fibromyalgia patients. The present article is a longitudinal, quantitative, almost experimental study, with comparative control in the study. Population of 11 women from a group of fibromyalgia patients from Chapecó (SC), suitable for the inclusion criteria: presenting a diagnosis of fibromyalgia and commitment with the interventions; and exclusion: missing meditation two times or more and have already performed meditations routinely. The data collection happened virtually, before the first (pre-test) and after the last meditation (post-test), with the instruments: Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Widespread Pain Index (WPI), Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ) Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The data were analyzed at the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), by the Wilcoxon test for two dependent samples, p<0.05. 100% of participants were women with 57 years or older (45.4%). At the VAS, 45% reported their pain as severe in the pre-test and only 9% remained in this classification afterwards. The WPI reduced 63 tender points in the post-test. The FIQ reduced 49.9 points (55.4%) between the pre and post-test medians (p<0.003). At the PSQI, only the domain 2 kept the median unchanged, the others regressed 1 point or more (p<0.005). Meditation was effective as a complementary therapy in the treatment of fibromyalgia, impacting at the improvement of pain, quality of life and sleep. It is hoped that this research will influence patients and health professionals about the efficiency of meditation as a PICS. |

It is hoped that this research will influence patients and health professionals about the efficiency of meditation as a PICS.A fibromialgia é uma síndrome dolorosa e crônica manifestada no sistema musculoesquelético. O IDG reduziu 63 tender points referidos no pós-teste. Espera-se com essa pesquisa, influenciar pacientes e profissionais da saúde acerca da eficiência da meditação como PICS.Specialized Dentistry Group2023-09-14info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/50810.36557/2674-8169.2023v5n4p1926-1947Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 5 No. 4 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 1926-1947Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 5 Núm. 4 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 1926-1947Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; v. 5 n. 4 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 1926-19472674-8169reponame:Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciencesinstname:Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)instacron:GOEporhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/508/630Copyright (c) 2023 Maria Lúcia Furlanetto Miranda, Carolline Paggi Montemezzo, Paula Zeni, Junir Antonio Lutinskihttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessMiranda, Maria Lúcia FurlanettoMontemezzo, Carolline Paggi Zeni, Paula Lutinski, Junir Antonio2023-09-14T16:33:46Zoai:ojs.bjihs.emnuvens.com.br:article/508Revistahttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihsONGhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/oaijournal.bjihs@periodicosbrasil.com.br2674-81692674-8169opendoar:2023-09-14T16:33:46Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences - Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)false |
