Resumo: INTRODUCTION: With the government's concern with population growth and birth control, family planning programs become essential in regularizing these values. Therefore, health professionals play an important role in these programs, mainly in guiding couples regarding the use of tubal ligation as a contraceptive method, focusing on the factors involved in the decision. OBJECTIVE: To present, through scientific literature, the main advantages of using surgical sterilization as a contraceptive method. METHOD: This is an integrative review of the literature, carried out using the following databases: (MEDLINE); (LILACS) and (BDENF); by crossing the following Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS): “Tubal Sterilization”, “Women's Health”, “Contraception”, using the Boolean operator AND. The search took place in September 2023. As inclusion criteria, articles were adopted that were available in full, in Portuguese and English and that addressed the topic in the last ten years. The following exclusion criteria were adopted: gray literature, in Spanish, that did not address the theme of the study and that were repeated in the selected databases. RESULTS: Furthermore, tubal ligation also brings other benefits such as positive interference in sexual relations, as there may be greater stimulation of sexual pleasure after surgery, making women feel freer to experience sexuality in all its dimensions. Furthermore, surgical sterilization provides another benefit of protection against ovarian cancer, considering that the risk of developing the disease is 30% lower in women who have undergone tubal ligation. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: It is concluded that tubal ligation is a simple and safe procedure, with biological and emotional advantages. Furthermore, being an effective method of family planning, it makes women who adopt the method feel safe and carefree about the possibility of a future unwanted pregnancy, thus being considered one of the most chosen options in family planning approaches by the assisted couple.

Specialized Dentistry Group2023-09-22info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/56310.36557/2674-8169.2023v5n4p2500-2510Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 5 No. 4 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 2500-2510Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 5 Núm. 4 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 2500-2510Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; v. 5 n. 4 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 2500-25102674-8169reponame:Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciencesinstname:Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)instacron:GOEporhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/563/683Copyright (c) 2023 Arianny Luiza Barros de Santana, Tatiane Vilela de Oliveira Alves , José Otacílio Silveira Neto , Silvana de Oliveira Morasco , Natália Muniz Santos , Thaís Regina Monteiro Bitencourt https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessSantana, Arianny Luiza Barros de Alves , Tatiane Vilela de OliveiraNeto , José Otacílio SilveiraMorasco , Silvana de OliveiraSantos , Natália MunizBitencourt , Thaís Regina Monteiro2023-09-22T17:55:30Zoai:ojs.bjihs.emnuvens.com.br:article/563Revistahttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihsONGhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/oaijournal.bjihs@periodicosbrasil.com.br2674-81692674-8169opendoar:2023-09-22T17:55:30Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences - Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)false
