Resumo: Drug-induced gingival hyperplasia is common in patients undergoing treatment with medications based on phenytoin, nifedipine and cyclosporine-A, due to the fibrotic changes that these drugs cause in the gingival tissues. Therefore, this condition requires more careful hygiene from the patient, and in some situations corrective surgery is necessary to remove hyperplastic gingival tissue, so that the patient has adequate oral health and a more harmonious smile. The objective of the present study is to report a clinical case of corrective surgery by gingivectomy in a patient with drug-treated gingival hyperplasia. Male patient, 14 years old, complained of gingival enlargement. After a detailed anamnesis, he reported the use of phenytoin-based medications, and as a result, it was decided to perform a gingivectomy to remove hyperplastic tissue. After 90 days, excellent healing was achieved and the patient was then released to begin orthodontic treatment. Surgical success was achieved through a correct diagnosis and correct choice of technique.

Specialized Dentistry Group2023-10-13info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/64410.36557/2674-8169.2023v5n5p956-968Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 5 No. 5 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 956-968Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 5 Núm. 5 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 956-968Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; v. 5 n. 5 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 956-9682674-8169reponame:Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciencesinstname:Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)instacron:GOEporhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/644/809Copyright (c) 2023 Gabriela de Souza Zimiani, Ana Beatriz Dias Guimaraes, Giovana Soler dos Santos, Isabella Cardoso Martinshttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessde Souza Zimiani, GabrielaDias Guimaraes, Ana BeatrizSoler dos Santos, GiovanaCardoso Martins, Isabella2023-10-13T17:02:57Zoai:ojs.bjihs.emnuvens.com.br:article/644Revistahttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihsONGhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/oaijournal.bjihs@periodicosbrasil.com.br2674-81692674-8169opendoar:2023-10-13T17:02:57Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences - Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)false
