Introduction: Installing an implant in the posterior region of the maxilla and mandible has always been very critical due to the low bone quality and reduced bone quantity, found in several clinical cases, due to bone resorption. Objectives: This study aims to evaluate in the current medical literature some cases where short implants were installed in the posterior region. Methodology: A scan was carried out on the Google academic indexing portals, Scielo, Pubmed and books by authors specialized in the field of implantology, so the research modality is bibliographic with an exploratory objective, where a literature review was made since the first publications that cover the topic even the most recent research. Results: More than 10,000 articles were found on the topic and 17 were chosen to serve as the basis for this article.Conclusion: Short implants offer a less traumatic treatment alternative in cases of short bone height and anatomical limitations.
