Resumo: Saturnism, also known as lead poisoning, occurs due to the accumulation of Lead (Pb) in the blood, found in batteries, paints, ores, and industrial waste. When ingested or inhaled, there is a serum accumulation of this element, which can cause an acute intoxication or lead to a chronic condition after long-term exposure. Objective: To investigate, interpret, and review findings on Saturnism and its relationship with public policies, as this toxic heavy metal, harmful to human health, accumulates in water and soil, posing particular risks to children, pregnant women, and socially vulnerable individuals. Methodology: The Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE/Pubmed) database was used with the descriptors Saturnism AND health policies, selecting review articles and original papers based on eligibility criteria. A total of 363 texts were found, initially narrowed down to 86, from which 53 eligible articles remained. Results: The articles, written in English, also included publications from authors and journals of various nationalities. Most articles covered the year 2020 (16), with the majority published in the last three years. Final considerations: The illness was predominantly observed in citizens subjected to conditions of social vulnerability, resource scarcity, and in areas of higher crime rates. Therefore, there is an unparalleled need for public policies targeting this population, especially pregnant women and children, as the impacts on this group are greater, to reverse this situation and prevent the disease's collateral effects.

Specialized Dentistry Group2024-04-09info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/190110.36557/2674-8169.2024v6n4p988-1007Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 6 No. 4 (2024): BJIHS QUALIS B3 - IMPACT FACTOR SJIF 5.807; 988-1007Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 6 Núm. 4 (2024): BJIHS QUALIS B3 - FATOR DE IMPACTO SJIF 5.807; 988-1007Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; v. 6 n. 4 (2024): BJIHS QUALIS B3 - FATOR DE IMPACTO SJIF 5.807; 988-10072674-8169reponame:Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciencesinstname:Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)instacron:GOEporhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/1901/2108Copyright (c) 2024 Danilo Vilela Vilhena , Daniel Faria Pedrosa , Edimar Júnior Catroli Vargas, Maria Eduarda Santos Pinheiro , Altielly Montes Machado , Victor de Oliveira Flausino , Ana Julia Barros Jota , Maria Eduarda Moura Benevenute Dutra , Lara Varela Bastos Pacheco, Maria Clara Carneiro Soares, Thalita Lanes Araujo , Lara Fernanda Leonardo Vasques, Pedro de Carvalho Soder Londero, Ighor Scalla , Samuel Mendes Rocha https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessVilhena , Danilo VilelaPedrosa , Daniel FariaVargas, Edimar Júnior CatroliPinheiro , Maria Eduarda SantosMachado , Altielly MontesFlausino , Victor de Oliveira Jota , Ana Julia BarrosDutra , Maria Eduarda Moura BenevenutePacheco, Lara Varela BastosSoares, Maria Clara CarneiroAraujo , Thalita LanesVasques, Lara Fernanda Leonardo Londero, Pedro de Carvalho Soder Scalla , IghorRocha , Samuel Mendes2024-04-10T00:22:20Zoai:ojs.bjihs.emnuvens.com.br:article/1901Revistahttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihsONGhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/oaijournal.bjihs@periodicosbrasil.com.br2674-81692674-8169opendoar:2024-04-10T00:22:20Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences - Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)false
