Resumo: Introduction: Meningococcal meningitis, a condition of significant public health relevance, stands out as an inflammatory disorder of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord, caused by the bacterium Neisseria meningitidis. Methodology: The methodology adopted for the realization of this systematic review on meningococcal meningitis was based on the search for updated scientific evidence in the PUBMED database. The MESH descriptors used for the research were "Meningococcal Infections," "Epidemiology," "prevention and control," aiming to encompass the epidemiological aspects, risk factors, diagnostic methods, and prevention strategies associated with the disease. Results: The complexity of the risk factors associated with meningococcal meningitis is revealed in a myriad of influences that range from intrinsic characteristics of the individual to behavioral and epidemiological aspects. The risk, to a large extent, is intertwined with individual characteristics, where age plays a preponderant role. Conclusion: In conclusion, the holistic approach to meningococcal meningitis, examining its epidemiology, risk factors, diagnostic methods, and prevention strategies, reveals the intrinsic complexity of this pathology and the urgent need for in-depth understanding for its effective management.

Specialized Dentistry Group2023-12-24info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/114410.36557/2674-8169.2023v5n5p6269-6279Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 5 No. 5 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 6269-6279Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 5 Núm. 5 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 6269-6279Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; v. 5 n. 5 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 6269-62792674-8169reponame:Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciencesinstname:Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)instacron:GOEporhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/1144/1306Copyright (c) 2023 Renata Peruchi Carvalho, Mateus Fernandes Alves dos Reis, Gabriel Monteiro Amorim, Bárbara Almeida Nico, Raphael Morais Vasconceloshttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessCarvalho, Renata PeruchiReis, Mateus Fernandes Alves dosAmorim, Gabriel MonteiroNico, Bárbara AlmeidaVasconcelos, Raphael Moraes2023-12-24T16:25:46Zoai:ojs.bjihs.emnuvens.com.br:article/1144Revistahttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihsONGhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/oaijournal.bjihs@periodicosbrasil.com.br2674-81692674-8169opendoar:2023-12-24T16:25:46Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences - Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)false
