The Importance of Humanized Care in Elderly Health: The Essential Role of Nursing

Resumo: Introduction: Global aging requires understanding physical and emotional changes, while the healthcare team must receive institutional support to provide humanized care, including training and effective communication. Objective: To investigate the methods by which the nursing team can improve the humanization of care provided to the elderly. Methodology: Narrative review using descriptors related to the humanization of elderly health. Articles were collected from July to October 2023, selecting those published between 2018 and 2022 and related to the topic of humanization in elderly patient care. Results and Discussion: The authors highlight the need for attention to the elderly population due to global aging and the increase in chronic diseases. Humanized care is emphasized as crucial, requiring investment in human resources and education. The importance of the role of nurses in assisting the elderly is highlighted, as well as the construction of bonds of trust and strategies to value the individuality of each elderly patient. Humanization seeks an approach that respects the needs of the elderly, promoting a healthy and integral life. Conclusion: Population aging demands attention from health professionals, especially nurses, due to the increase in chronic diseases and needs generated by aging. Humanization in care, in line with the National Humanization Policy, requires investment in human resources, education and specific practices for the well-being of the elderly.

Objetivo: Investigar os métodos pelos quais a equipe de enfermagem pode aprimorar a humanização da assistência prestada aos idosos. Metodologia: Revisão narrativa utilizando descritores relacionados à humanização da saúde do idoso. Foram coletados artigos de julho a outubro de 2023, selecionando aqueles publicados entre 2018 e 2022 e relacionados ao tema de humanização na assistência ao paciente idoso. Resultados e Discussão: Os autores destacam a necessidade de atenção à população idosa devido ao envelhecimento global e ao aumento de doenças crônicas. O atendimento humanizado é enfatizado como crucial, exigindo investimento em recursos humanos e educação. A importância do papel dos enfermeiros na assistência aos idosos é ressaltada, assim como a construção de vínculos de confiança e estratégias para valorizar a individualidade de cada paciente idoso. A humanização busca uma abordagem que respeite as necessidades dos idosos, promovendo uma vida saudável e integral. Conclusão: O envelhecimento populacional demanda atenção dos profissionais de saúde, em especial enfermeiros, devido ao aumento de doenças crônicas e necessidades geradas pelo envelhecimento.
