CARE FOR THE ELDERLY: THE IMPORTANCE OF HUMANIZED NURSING CARE

Introduction: Ageing is a natural process that involves physical, social and emotional changes. The increase in the elderly population in Brazil is a clear phenomenon, making it crucial to understand this process and promote healthy ageing. Objective: To identify the importance of humanized care for the elderly, with a view to improving care for this population. Methodology: A narrative, descriptive and exploratory review, using the Virtual Health Library to search for articles in the last five years (2018-2022) related to elderly care: the importance of humanized nursing care. Results: 14 articles were found, 4 of which met the inclusion criteria. The articles analyzed highlight the promotion of active and healthy aging and also emphasize the importance of care for the elderly. Discussion: The adversities of ageing and nursing care and nursing practices to promote active and healthy ageing. Conclusion: One of the roles of nursing in the face of humanized care for the elderly should be the implementation of attitudes aimed at supporting and treating this patient in a particular way, humanized care is characterized by attention, dialogue and qualified listening between the professional and the user, valuing them, covering them in an integral, holistic and human way.
