Resumo: Due to growing evidence of the negative effects of corporate agriculture and large monocultures affecting the environment and natural ecosystems, and also considering the presence of pesticide residues in the food produced, many researchers are pointing to the need to ponder about models of agricultural production with greater socio-environmental balance. Agroforestry systems and the use of native species are among the possibilities that present greater ecological resilience and promote sustainable development, capable of producing healthy food, generating income and providing environmental and ecosystem services. This work, developed through studies on agroforestry systems planted by family farmers in the region of Bragança Paulista (SP, Brazil), aimed to analyze the diversity of species found in agroecosystems. Species were categorized according to their origin and function in the system, and diversity and dominance indices were also calculated. This study focused in relating to sustainability the results found in it, in order to build parameters that can evaluate the provision of environmental services by agroecosystem(s). A higher predominance of nutritional species, in disregard of fertilizing species was found, as well as a balance between exotic and native. Agroecosystems showed good diversity, with low dominance index. We conclude that classification of species allows a better planning of the area as it facilitates the visualization of the ecological functions that the agroecosystem is capable of producing and that, added to the diversity indices, help building parameters to monitor the sustainability and ecological resilience of the farm.
