Domestic violence against women is currently considered a public health problem and a violation of human rights. This study aims to identify the determining factors that influence domestic violence against women in Brazil. This is an integrative review of the literature, carried out in the databases: SciELO, LILACS and PubMed. Articles published in Portuguese, English or Spanish, found in full, between 2016 and 2020, in which Brazil was based in the study scenario. The final sample consisted of twelve articles. Studies showed that psychological violence in women victims of domestic violence was more prevalent in relation to physical, moral and sexual violence. Factors such as socioeconomic issues, low schooling of both men and women, alcoholism and other drugs were the most prevalent determinants, being related to the occurrence of physical and psychological violence. It is necessary to expand debates and interventions that can break the silence of a glaring problem in Brazilian society, so that there is a reduction in the rates of women victims of domestic violence in the country.
