Realistic simulation in medical teaching: how to build a case of cocaine intoxication

Realistic simulation plays an important role in the students' transition to the real context, allowing safe and systematic conduct, ensuring greater patient safety. Cocaine is one of the most used drugs in the world, and its use is associated with effects resulting from acute toxicity, especially cardiovascular ones. The primary objective of this work was to elaborate a simulated case of cocaine intoxication, in addition to addressing the necessary stages for the construction of a scenario in medical simulation. The scenario was developed at the UNILUS Realistic Simulation Center using the high-fidelity simulator CAE Apollo Prehospital. For the development, SMART, PEARLS tools and SimZones concepts were used. The case described has all the information relevant to its programming and execution, such as: vital signs, patient speeches, discussion points, and a checklist for evaluating the simulation. We conclude that this methodology provides an important step in professional training, ensuring safe care for future patients.
