This article presents the story of Solomon Fiquene, a noted parasitologist, writer, and politician, highlighting his journey from academic training to his professional career. Of Lebanese descent, the text describes Salomão's family trajectory in the historical context of Lebanese immigration in Maranhão, highlighting his significant contribution to the economic growth of the state at that time. In addition, the article explores twentieth-century medical education, comparing it with current training, identifying differences, similarities and particularities. The objective is to promote a discussion about contemporary medical education and the importance of professionals expanding their horizons of knowledge, going beyond medicine, broadening their ideas and perspectives, to play an active role in the formation of opinions and in the transformation of the environment in which they live. To conduct the present research, the method of collecting information through bibliographic research was adopted. This method aims to explore and discuss a given topic based on theoretical references previously published in books, magazines, periodicals, and other sources. Finally, Salomão Fiquene occupies a unique place in the history of medicine in Maranhão, transcending his academic and professional titles and achievements. This study highlights that his greatest contribution was the practical application of his ideals.
