Introduction: Artistic-pictorial series are a type of document with informative particularities that open new paths for representational activities. They encourage the appreciation of a socio-cognitive approach that respects the cultural particularities of documentary production in the fields of Art and Culture. Objective: To present the indexing and elaboration of the thematic index of the artistic-pictorial series “Linguagem do Agreste”, by the Pernambuco artist Joaz Silva. The index in question was developed for the purpose of representing information arising from visual narratives with memorialistic value and a contextual nature of the series' production. In this way, inferences are made about the indexing process carried out, discussing the artistic text, intertextuality and the contextual character that surround the socio-cognitive dimension of this documentary process. Methodology: A case study with a qualitative approach and exploratory and interdisciplinary nature is presented between the fields of Information Science and Arts. Results: Presents the stages of document analysis, processing of document analysis results and the structuring of the thematic index. Conclusion: The established interdisciplinary discussion expands and provides opportunities for Information Science discussions on artistic documents. The development of thematic indexes is a social contribution to the arts and artists, serving as consultation and reference material for the indexing of artistic-pictorial series and for the research community, as a source of information and consultation.
