Refugees: an integrative review of national and international literature

This study investigates the scientific production about refugees that address health, labor, and human rights by means of an integrative review of national and international articles published in the last ten years with the word “refugees.” Inclusion criteria consisted of studies that have been published in the last ten years on topics related to refugees’ physical and mental health, labor, and human rights. A search was performed in the Virtual Health Library in Psychology (Brazil) database using the descriptor “refugees”. Of the 82 articles found, 38 were excluded for not fulfilling the inclusion criteria, thus 44 articles remained for analysis. Literature analysis established six quantitative and two qualitative categories. The articles were read in full and grouped into the corresponding categories; quantitative data were analyzed descriptively, and qualitative data underwent thematic analysis. The studies addressed topics such as the rights of refugees and the role of the State, but discussions remain excessively focused on legal procedures, sidelining the central role of refugees.
