Resumo: Since the increase in overweight and obesity in children and adolescents is linked to the growing number of cases of chronic non-communicable diseases, this study sought to evaluate the influence of the level of physical activity on the prevalence of overweight in school adolescents. A cross-sectional and quantitative study was carried out with 50 students of all genders, between 15 and 18 years of age. Level of physical activity was evaluated by an instrument developed based on a questionnaire proposed by a previous research, in addition to anthropometric assessment. Statistical analysis used an elaborate electronic database (Excel©). Unpaired t-test was performed to verify the differences between genders in the groups, considering as significant p < 0.05. Results showed no statistically significant difference between genders regarding age (p = 0.36858) but found a significant difference between the individuals’ height (p = 0.00006). Weight reached values of 55.5 ± 8.7. Body Mass Index (BMI)/age analysis indicated two low weight individuals (4%), 46 classified as adequate or eutrophic (92%), and two overweight (4%). Regarding the level of physical activity, of the 50 adolescents, 16 were classified as inactive (32%), seven as inadequately active (14%), and 27 as active (54%). In conclusion, the study found no prevalence of overweight/obesity among the adolescents evaluated, since most were classified as adequate or eutrophic weight.

In conclusion, the study found no prevalence of overweight/obesity among the adolescents evaluated, since most were classified as adequate or eutrophic weight.
