Resumo: The Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) belongs to the Papillomaviridae family. Among the types of cancer triggered by HPV, cervical cancer is the most prevalent. Increasingly early sexual initiation in adolescence increases the risk of HPV infection. Hence, this research investigates, in scientific productions, studies that address the forms of transmission and aspects related to HPV contagion among adolescents, the existence of knowledge of its outcomes by adolescents and their parents, and whether such knowledge facilitates immunization against the virus in Brazil. This systematic review was based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyzes (PRISMA) guidelines. Data was collected by searches performed in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (Lilacs), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MedLine), and PubMed databases. Inclusion criteria consisted of original articles on the topic under study, of free access, published between 2013 and 2017 in English and Portuguese, developed in Brazil. The searches returned few publications on HPV and the adolescent population. The low level of knowledge about the virus and about immunization are the main factors that hinder combating the issue. The study can support public policies aimed at HPV prevention and treatment in the adolescent population.

The study can support public policies aimed at HPV prevention and treatment in the adolescent population.
