Resumo: Scholastic curriculum mostly does not privilege and nor does it esteem knowledge that is notvalidated by science. However, it perceives the importance of recovering popular knowledgein the production of scientific knowledge. Different educators have emphasized the purposeof the school is to also esteem common knowledge, local knowledge, from the surroundingcommunity where the school is inserted. This research work was the purpose of investigatingthe usage of common knowledge relating to scientific knowledge through a study based onbread manufacturing. The research work was based on the performance of experimentsapplying bread manufacturing to base the production of chemical concepts, such as thefermentation reaction and chemical kinetics. The usage of common knowledge demonstrated efficiency in the teaching and learning process, as the motivation in manufacturing bread andthus the students felt as they were protagonists in this teaching, by observing chemistry intheir everyday life.

Contudo percebe-se a importância do resgate dos saberes populares na construção do conhecimento cientifico. Diferentes educadores ressaltam que é função da escola valorizar também o saber popular, o saber local, próprio da comunidade onde a escola está inserida. Este trabalho teve o objetivo de investigar o uso dos saberes populares relacionando-os com os saberes científicos através de um estudo envolvendo a fabricação de pão. A realização deste trabalho se deu com a execução de experimentos utilizando fabricação de pão para a construção de conceitos químicos tais como reação de fermentação e cinética química.
