Resumo: The present work presents a qualitative study on the use of Facebook as a communication tool between school and family/guardians. The theme arose from the identification of family absence as one of the possible causes that affect learning in everyday school life. It was also considered the insertion of individuals in a contemporary society, in which the popularization of technological resources enabled inclusion in the digital world and consequently in social networks. The objective was to map the use of Facebook by schools in the municipal network of São Carlos/SP, as well as analyze the interaction between parents/guardians (of students) and schools through Facebook. It is intended to identify the challenges and possibilities regarding the use of social networks. The study began through bibliographic research. Documentary analysis made it possible to ascertain how educational policies guide the use of Information and Communication Technologies in teaching and learning processes. The object of this research was the Facebook pages of 20 school units. It was noticed that the school pages are fed with photos, videos and advertisements, mostly of an informative nature, which makes it possible for school institutions to act as social media, however, they do not establish a participatory communication channel between school and family. , considering the second a mere receptacle of information. Finally, it was noted some challenges that refer to the adequate appropriation of technologies by schools, including the deficit in the use of Information and Communication Technologies as pedagogical practices and mainly a significant concern about the exposure of children and adolescents on Facebook.

O presente trabalho apresenta um estudo qualitativo sobre a utilização do Facebook como ferramenta de comunicação entre escola e família/responsáveis. A temática surgiu pela identificação da ausência familiar como uma das possíveis causas que afetam a aprendizagem no cotidiano escolar. Considerou-se, ainda, a inserção dos indivíduos em uma sociedade contemporânea, na qual a popularização dos recursos tecnológicos possibilitou a inclusão ao mundo digital e consequentemente às redes sociais. Objetivou-se mapear a utilização do Facebook pelas escolas da rede municipal de São Carlos/SP, bem como analisar a interação entre os pais/responsáveis (dos alunos) e as escolas por meio do Facebook. Intenta-se, identificar os desafios e possibilidades acerca da utilização das redes sociais. O estudo iniciou-se através da pesquisa bibliográfica. A análise documental possibilitou averiguar como as políticas educacionais orientam sobre o uso das Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação nos processos de ensino e aprendizagem. O objeto desta pesquisa foram as páginas do Facebook de 20 unidades escolares. Percebeu-se que as páginas das escolas são alimentadas com fotos, vídeos e anúncios, em sua maioria de cunho informativo, o que torna factível a atuação das instituições escolares como mídias sociais, porém, não estabelecem um canal de comunicação participativa entre escola e família, considerando a segunda mero receptáculo de informações. Por fim, notou-se alguns desafios que se referem à apropriação adequada das tecnologias pelas escolas, incluindo o déficit na utilização das Tecnologias da Informação e Comunicação como práticas pedagógicas e principalmente uma preocupação significante sobre a exposição das crianças e adolescentes no Facebook.
