Resumo: | This paper seeks to contextualize some landmarks of Vocational Education in Brazil in the 1990s, during the Reform of Vocational Education promoted by the Fernando Henrique Cardoso government. We focus the discussion on Decree 2208/97 which dissociated high school programs from vocational studies, resulting in the loss of equivalent programs inaugurated by the Capanema Reform in the 1940s. This decree restored the old structural duality by establishing different and nonequivalent paths at this level of education. |

This decree restored the old structural duality by establishing different and nonequivalent paths at this level of education.Neste trabalho procuramos contextualizar alguns marcos da Educação Profissional no Brasil na segunda metade dos anos de 1990, durante a Reforma da Educação Profissional promovida pelo governo Fernando Henrique Cardoso. Particularmente daremos ênfase ao Decreto 2208/97 que tinha, na separação entre ensino médio e ensino técnico, seu eixo central, resultando na perda da equivalência construída desde os anos 1940 com a Reforma Capanema, restabelecendo a velha dualidade estrutural, instituindo, assim, trajetórias distintas e não equivalentes nesse nível de ensino.
