Summary:   The article aims to address Latin American environmentalism, represented in the counter-hegemonic struggles of environmental and rural education. After the 2008 financial crisis, the US turned its attention to Latin America, interested in the exploitation of primary resources. In this context, environmental education and rural education have had an important role in creating critical awareness of individuals and environmental knowledge. The first part analyzes environmentalism as a resistance movement. Then, the emancipatory character of environmental education and rural education is emphasized. Finally, it is proposed a rural education opposed to the agribusiness model.

Después de la crisis financiera de 2008, los Estados Unidos dirigieron su atención a América Latina, interesados en la explotación de los recursos primarios. En este contexto, la educación ambiental y la educación rural han desempeñado un rol importante en la creación de conciencia crítica de las personas y de conocimiento ambiental. La primera parte analiza el ambientalismo como un movimiento de resistencia. Luego, se enfatiza el carácter emancipatorio de la educación ambiental y de la educación rural. Finalmente, se propone una educación rural opuesta al modelo de agronegocios.      O artigo objetiva abordar o ambientalismo latino-americano, representado nas lutas contra-hegemônicas da educação ambiental e do campo. Após a crise econômica de 2008, os EUA voltaram suas atenções para a América Latina, interessados na exploração de recursos primários. Neste contexto, a educação ambiental e a educação do campo têm um importante papel na criação da consciência crítica dos indivíduos e de um saber ambiental. A primeira parte analisa o ambientalismo como um movimento de resistência. Depois, enfatiza-se o caráter emancipatório da educação ambiental e da educação do campo.
