Guidelines for product development in civil construction : a case study of a housing program aimed at senior citizens in Campos dos Goytacazes/RJ/Brazil

The main objective of this study is the development of guidelines for the definition of a housing product aimed at a specific social segment in order to fulfill customer needs. The specific objective is to illustrate these guidelines by means of a case study. The methodology is developed in two stages – a bibliographic research for the theoretical-conceptual framework, followed by a field research in a specific residential area in Campos dos Goytacazes, RJ, Brazil. Interviews were conducted using an application form as acollecting data tool among the target-public. The study was applied aiming at a housing projectfor senior citizens, a social segment identified as a growing market opportunity whose different needs and wishes, assisted homes, in particular, have not been fulfilled. A database with 34 interviews with senior citizens is the source used for illustrating the set of guidelines for the project, endorsing the conception stage that follows.
