Resumo: Among works inherited from the past, fortifications stand out as architectural complexes to defend a territory. .Built since Antiquity, these military buildings have evolved over the centuries, in shape and type, adapting to the growing improvement of weaponry. Under the direction of military engineers, they spread throughout Portuguese America, along the coastline or river banks, often representing political symbols of territorial domination of the Portuguese colony.
