Geomorphological and land occupation characterization of basin in an urbanized area of Juiz de Fora (Brazil) and proposition of green infrastructure to promote life quality and minimize floods

Resumo: Floods require interventions by the public authorities to prevent them in the urbanized area of the Córrego Ipiranga Watershed (BHCI) in Juiz de Fora, Brazil. This research analyzes the dynamics of these disorders in the region and points out mitigating actions for implementation in the watershed. Through documentary research and geoprocessing tools, data on hydrology, rainfall, morphology, and land use were collected and generated to characterize the region and point out sustainable interventions and their locations around the Teixeiras and Ipiranga streams, identified as the most impacted in the watershed. Due to the current occupation of the BHCI, it is noteworthy that the proposed actions aim to mitigate the damage, not being able to prevent flooding and inundation, especially in situations of maximum flows. Among the proposed mitigating interventions, permeable sidewalks, rain gardens, and detention basins stand out. If implemented in the watershed — besides improving the communities' life quality — these green infrastructure elements increase soil permeability, thus reducing water accumulation on the surface.

En ese contexto, esta investigación tiene como objetivo analizar la dinámica de estos eventos en la región y proponer medidas mitigadoras para su implementación en la cuenca. A través de la investigación documental y del geoprocesamiento, se recopilaron y generaron datos sobre hidrología, precipitación, morfología y uso y ocupación del suelo de la región con el fin de caracterizarla y señalar intervenciones sostenibles y sus ubicaciones alrededor de los arroyos Teixeiras e Ipiranga — los más impactados en la cuenca. Debido al actual estado de ocupación del BHCI, cabe destacar que las medidas propuestas van encaminadas a mitigar los daños, no pudiendo prevenir las inundaciones, especialmente en situaciones de máximo caudal. Entre las acciones propuestas se destacan los pavimentos permeables, los jardines de lluvia y las dársenas de detención. Si se implementa en la cuenca, además de mejorar la calidad de vida de la población, la infraestructura verde aumenta la permeabilidad del suelo, reduciendo así la acumulación de agua en la superficie.São constantes os casos de inundação na área urbanizada da Bacia Hidrográfica do Córrego Ipiranga (BHCI), em Juiz de Fora/MG, o que demanda intervenções do poder público para que sejam evitados. Nesse contexto, esta pesquisa analisa a dinâmica desses transtornos na região e aponta ações mitigadoras para implantação na bacia. Por meio de pesquisas documentais e do uso de ferramentas de geoprocessamento, foram coletados e gerados dados sobre hidrologia, pluviometria, morfologia e uso e ocupação do solo da região a fim de caracterizá-la e apontar intervenções sustentáveis e suas locações no entorno dos córregos Teixeiras e Ipiranga, identificados como os mais impactados da bacia. Devido ao atual estado de ocupação da BHCI, ressalta-se que as ações propostas visam mitigar os danos, não sendo capazes de impedir casos de inundação, principalmente nas situações de vazões máximas. Dentre as ações mitigadoras propostas, destacam-se os pavimentos permeáveis, os jardins de chuva e as bacias de detenção.
