The article is the product of the conference given by the authors, at the II COHEP – PPGEP/2023, about the rationalist pedagogical experiences that took place in the city of São Paulo in the early 20th century. It is made known about the Modern Schools 1 and 2, directed by the libertarian educators João Penteado and Adelino de Pinho, these educational institutions represented what best materialized in the country the reflections of the anarchist militants about a pedagogical project of the class and for the working class . The defense of polytechnics and  polytechnic education was the basis of this pedagogical and political project, abruptly interrupted by the exclusionary liberal order that marked the 1st Republic in Brazil. The methodology used was the analysis of primary sources and bibliographical references related to the theme. The results consisted of the presentation of documents on Modern Schools 1 and 2 existing at the USP Education Memory Center.
