Controversial Socio-Environmental Themes in Teachers’ Continued Education: Analyzing the Construction and Application of a Didactic Sequence

Resumo: Abstract: This article comprises a snippet of a master’s research and aimed to analyze the creation and application process of the Didactic Sequence (DS) entitled “Food Chain and Pesticides: Assumptions and Reality”. The DS was made by three educators participants of a continuing education course in Controversial Socio-environmental Themes offered to Basic Education teachers of different subjects active in the state educational system of Maringa-Parana’s city. This investigation characterizes as qualitative and adopts the modality of participative research. The data were collected via audio recording and analyzed by a Content Analysis. The analyzes showcased that from the specific food chain content, the controversial pesticide theme was worked on, considering its environmental, scientific, and economic dimensions. The activities developed valued the students’ previous knowledge, contemplated diverse teaching strategies, promoted discussions, and debates that led students to build arguments for taking a reasoned stand. As for the difficulties faced in the process, the educators mentioned the lack of time and the students' agitation. However, paths open up to make new oriented researches, especially in the teachers' education field and the Science resume aiming to consolidate the insertion of controversial questions in the classroom, reiterating school as a learning space for specific knowledge, skills and competences development, and building values to mold responsible and participative citizens. Teachers’ education.Resumo: Este artigo compreende um recorte de uma pesquisa de mestrado e objetivou analisar o processo de elaboração e aplicação da Sequência Didática (SD) intitulada “Cadeia Alimentar e Agrotóxicos: Pressupostos e Realidade”. A SD foi construída por três educadoras participantes de um curso de formação continuada em Temas Controversos Socioambientais ofertado a professores da Educação Básica de diferentes disciplinas atuantes na rede estadual de ensino do município de Maringá-PR. Esta investigação se caracteriza como qualitativa e adota a modalidade de pesquisa participante. Os dados foram coletados por meio de gravações em áudio e analisados pela técnica de Análise de Conteúdo. As análises evidenciaram que, a partir do conteúdo específico cadeia alimentar, foi trabalhado o tema controverso “agrotóxico”, considerando sua dimensão ambiental, científica e econômica. As atividades desenvolvidas valorizaram os conhecimentos prévios dos alunos, contemplaram estratégias de ensino diversificadas, promoveram discussões e debates, os quais subsidiaram a construção de argumentos para uma tomada de posição fundamentada por parte dos educandos. Quanto às dificuldades encontradas no processo, as educadoras mencionaram a escassez de tempo e a agitação dos alunos. Contudo, abrem-se caminhos para a realização de novas pesquisas direcionadas principalmente ao campo de formação de professores e ao currículo de Ciências, visando consolidar a inserção de questões controversas em sala de aula e reafirmando a escola como espaço de aprendizagem de conhecimentos específicos, de desenvolvimento  de habilidades e competências, bem como de construção de valores para a formação de cidadãos responsáveis e participativos.
