Teaching of Fractal Geometry in Basic Education: a systematic review

Resumo: Fractal Geometry is an area of Mathematics that studies the properties of complex figures that have great aesthetic appeal and, therefore, have the potential to arouse the interest of students. Aiming to obtain an overview of research on the teaching of Mathematics involving Fractal Geometry, within the scope of Basic Education, a systematic review of the literature on the subject is presented here. The bases used were the CAPES Periodicals Portal, Google Scholar and the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD/IBICT), within the range from 2018 to 2021, obtaining a preliminary result of 862 studies on the subject, of which 58 were considered relevant. According to the inclusion criteria, allowing theses, dissertations and articles within the scope of Basic Education, 13 studies were obtained that were relevant to the objectives of the review. For the subsequent analysis, the guiding question was established: “How is the teaching of Fractal Geometry in Elementary School II, High School and Youth and Adult Education?”, being proposed 8 complementary questions that allowed consolidating a series of information. Some promising research and application gaps for Mathematics Education were identified, with the possibility of generating significant knowledge from the use and application of Fractal Geometry, effectively in the classroom.

Con el objetivo de obtener un panorama de las investigaciones sobre la enseñanza de las Matemáticas involucrando la Geometría Fractal, en el ámbito de la Educación Básica, se presenta aquí una revisión sistemática de la literatura sobre el tema. Las bases utilizadas fueron el Portal de Periódicos de la CAPES, Google Scholar y la Biblioteca Digital Brasileña de Tesis y Disertaciones (BDTD/IBICT), en el intervalo de 2018 a 2021, obteniendo un resultado preliminar de 862 estudios sobre el tema, de los cuales 58 fueron considerados importante. De acuerdo con los criterios de inclusión, admitiendo tesis, disertaciones y artículos en el ámbito de la Educación Básica, se obtuvieron 13 estudios pertinentes a los objetivos de la revisión. Para el análisis posterior se estableció la pregunta orientadora: “¿Cómo es la enseñanza de la Geometría Fractal en la Enseñanza Básica II, Secundaria y Educación de Jóvenes y Adultos?”, proponiéndose 8 preguntas complementarias que permitieron consolidar una serie de información. Se identificaron algunos vacíos prometedores de investigación y aplicación para la Educación Matemática, con la posibilidad de generar conocimiento significativo a partir del uso y aplicación de la Geometría Fractal, de manera efectiva en el aula.A Geometria Fractal é uma área da Matemática que estuda as propriedades de figuras complexas que possuem grande apelo estético. Visando obter um panorama das pesquisas quanto ao ensino da Matemática envolvendo a Geometria Fractal, no âmbito da Educação Básica, apresenta-se aqui uma revisão sistemática de literatura referente ao tema, o qual se insere no contexto de um projeto de dissertação de mestrado profissional de um dos autores. As bases utilizadas foram o Portal de Periódicos da CAPES, Google Acadêmico e Biblioteca Digital Brasileira de Teses e Dissertações, dentro do intervalo de 2018 a 2021, obtendo-se um resultado preliminar de 862 estudos sobre o tema, dos quais 58 foram considerados relevantes. De acordo com os critérios de inclusão, permitindo teses, dissertações e artigos no âmbito da Educação Básica, obteve-se 13 estudos relevantes para os objetivos da revisão. Para a subsequente análise, estabeleceu-se a questão norteadora: “Como se dá o ensino da Geometria Fractal no Ensino Fundamental II, Ensino Médio e Educação de Jovens e Adultos?”, sendo propostas 8 questões complementares que permitiram consolidar uma série de informações.
