Games in the development of social skills in children with autism: an integrative review

According to the Ministry of Education, there is a significant increase in cases of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in children, and new interventions for this population are essential. This article sought to carry out an integrative literature review, including only clinical trials that addressed the effects of games on the development of social skills in children with ASD. One study found benefits in a specific game. Although other studies did not report relevant differences between the intervention and control groups, they did find improvements in post-game assessments. Therefore, it cannot be affirmed that games have the potential to benefit autistic children, constituting a gap in knowledge that requires new clinical trials.
