Resumo: In this article, we discuss the perception of the professionals who work in Early Childhood Education about the social function of day care center in the municipality of Corumbá-MS. This research was based on the quantitative-qualitative approach and adopted as an instrument for data collection the mixed questionnaire. The analysis points to the professionals' understanding of the day care center as a space for coexistence, socialization, interaction; integral development; and also care for and educate the children. In addition, we note that the vision of professionals linked to daycare as a place of custody and right of working parents still persists.

In addition, we note that the vision of professionals linked to daycare as a place of custody and right of working parents still persists.En este artículo se discute la percepción de los profesionales actuantes en la Educación Infantil del municipio de Corumbá-MS, sobre la función social de la guardería. La investigación de abordaje cuantitativa y cualitativa adoptó como herramienta para recolección de datos uno cuestionario mixto. Los análisis apuntan el entendimiento de la guardería como espacio de convivencia/socialización/interacción; desarrollo integral; y cuidar y educar. También notamos que persiste la visión de guardería como lugar de guardia y derecho de padres trabajadores.Nesse artigo discutimos a percepção de profissionais atuantes na Educação Infantil, do município de Corumbá-MS, sobre o papel/função da creche. A investigação de abordagem quanti-qualitativa adotou como instrumento para coleta de dados questionário misto, cuja análise aponta o entendimento da creche como espaço de convivência/socialização/interação; desenvolvimento integral; e, cuidar e educar.
