Reflections on brazilian legislation for elderly age: a look at citizenship, politics, and freedom, according to classical authors from ancient and medieval times

Resumo: This article brings reflections on laws that regulate the rights of the elderly in Brazil. The study was developed from the reading of philosophical works from different historical times, having as a theoretical thread social history, with a special focus on the concept of long duration, as both allow us to dialogue with authors and historical events from different times. The sources that supported our reflections beyond legislation were Aristotle, Augustine of Hippo, and Thomas Aquinas to think about the importance of virtues in human formation, and La Boétie and Hannah Arendt to think about aspects of modernity and contemporaneity. La investigación se concibió a partir de la lectura de obras filosóficas de diferentes épocas históricas, teniendo como hilo conductor la Historia Social, con especial foco en el concepto de Larga Duración, lo que permitió dialogar con autores y hechos históricos de diferentes épocas. Las fuentes que apoyaron nuestras reflexiones fueron la legislación brasileña que se refiere a los ancianos, el filósofo Aristóteles, Agostinho de Hipona y Tomás de Aquino que contribuyeron a pensar sobre la importancia de las virtudes en la formación humana y La Boétie y Hannah Arendt para reflexionar sobre los aspectos de la modernidad y la contemporaneidad.  Este artigo traz reflexões sobre leis que regulam os direitos da pessoa idosa no Brasil. A pesquisa teve sua concepção a partir da leitura de obras filosóficas de diferentes tempos históricos, tendo por fio teórico a História Social, com enfoque especial no conceito de Longa Duração, que nos permitiu dialogar com autores e acontecimentos históricos de tempos distintos.
