Quality of Life and Food Consumption of Cancer Patient

Resumo: Introduction: Cancer is a multifactorial chronic degenerative disease, which has its incidence increased every year. The presence of a tumor triggers changes in the patient's metabolism affecting his/her nutrition and his/her quality of life. Objective: To evaluate food intake and quality of life in cancer patients at the Oncology Institute in Vitória da Conquista-Bahia. Method: This is a cross- ectional, quantitative and exploratory study with 200 patients, selected at random. The questionnaires: "How is your food intake?" from the Ministry of Health and the WHOQOL-Bref, analyzed food intake and quality of life, respectively. Results: Food consumption, according to the new food guide for the Brazilian population, was 11.5% for fruit, 7% for vegetables, 88.5% for beans and the consumption of red meat was high. Quality of life was around 67%. Sorrowful moments were reported at 24.50%, good self-esteem at 90.75%, good memory and concentration at 71.75%, good spirituality at 86.75%, financial difficulties at 44.75%, while 59.67% are feeling well at the physical and social environment in which they live. Conclusion: Patients’ food intake proved inadequate when it comes to quantitative intake of most food groups, but there was an adequate consumption of beans. Overall, the food profile was adequate. Quality of life was good in view of many of the difficulties suffered by the respondents.

La presencia de tumor provoca cambios en el metabolismo del paciente que afectan a la nutrición y la calidad de vida. Objetivo: Evaluar la calidad de vida y la ingesta de alimentos de los pacientes de cáncer en Conquistense Instituto de Oncología en la ciudad de Vitoria de Bahía Conquista. Método: Se trata de un estudio transversal, cuantitativo y exploratorio con 200 pacientes, seleccionados al azar. Cuestionarios "Cómo ser tu comida?" El Ministerio de Salud y el WHOQOL-Bref evaluó la ingesta alimentaria y la calidad de vida, respectivamente. Resultados: El consumo de alimentos, de acuerdo con la nueva guía de alimentación para la población brasileña, fue del 11,5% para las frutas, 7% para las verduras, el 88,5% para las legumbres y el consumo de carne roja era alta. La calidad de vida fue de alrededor de 67%. Dolores momentos fueron reportados en 24,50%, 90,75% una buena autoestima, buena memoria y concentración 71,75%, 86,75% buena espiritualidad, dificultades financieras y 44,75% 59,67% están bien en el entorno físico y social en que viven. Conclusión: La ingesta dietética de los pacientes resultó inadecuada en lo que respecta a la ingesta cuantitativa de la mayoría de los grupos de alimentos, apenas se presentó una adecuación para el consumo de legumbres; aunque el perfil alimenticio era adecuado. La calidad de vida fue buena teniendo en cuenta las dificultades sufridas por ellos.Introdução: O câncer é uma doença crônico-degenerativa multifatorial que a cada ano tem sua incidência aumentada. A presença do tumor desencadeia alterações no metabolismo do paciente afetando a nutrição e a qualidade de vida. Objetivo: Avaliar a qualidade de vida e o consumo alimentar de pacientes oncológicos no Instituto Conquistense de Oncologia, na cidade de Vitória da Conquista (BA). Método: Trata-se de um estudo transversal, quantitativo e exploratório, realizado com 200 pacientes, selecionados de modo aleatório. Os questionários Como está sua alimentação? do Ministério da Saúde e o WHOQOL-Bref avaliaram o consumo alimentar e a qualidade de vida, respectivamente. Resultados: A adequação do consumo alimentar, de acordo com o novo Guia Alimentar para a População Brasileira, foi de 11,5% para frutas, 7% para verduras e legumes, 88,5% para as leguminosas, e consumo de carnes vermelhas foi elevado. A qualidade de vida esteve em torno de 67%. Momentos de tristezas foram relatados em 24,50%, boa autoestima 90,75%, boa memória e concentração 71,75%, boa espiritualidade 86,75%, dificuldades financeiras 44,75% e 59,67% estão bem no ambiente físico social em que vivem. Conclusão: O consumo alimentar dos pacientes se mostrou inadequado no que tange à ingestão quantitativa da maioria dos grupos alimentares, apenas houve adequação para o consumo de leguminosas; porém o perfil alimentar esteve adequado. A qualidade de vida foi boa tendo em vista as muitas dificuldades sofridas por eles.
