Confront and Resiliency of the Patients in the Chemotherapeutic Treatment and their Families

Resumo: Introduction: Chemotherapy causes numerous changes in the lives of patients and their families. Objective: to understand the process of copying with the disease and the resiliency of patients with cancer submitted to chemotherapeutic treatment and their families. Method: This is a qualitative study carried out through the analysis of a joint case and it also had as participants three in-patients and their families. Data collection occurred through the analysis of medical records and interviews. Results: The participants showed that the hospitalization process and adverse effects to treatment interfere with the family and social relationships. Participants showed they use two copying strategies: one focused on the problem and the other focused on emotion. Conclusion: The information we obtained by means of this research suggests that the treatment interferes with the way they cope with the disease and in the process of resiliency of these patients with cancer and their families. We could verify that the treatment contributes to the resiliency development, promoting a greater utilization of the protecting factors of the individuals.

Objetivo: Comprender el proceso de afrontamiento de la enfermedad y la Resiliencia por parte de los pacientes con Cáncer y de sus familiares, donde los pacientes han sido sometidos a la quimioterapia. Método: Estudio cualitativo, realizado a través de análisis de caso incorporado, que tiene como participantes tres pacientes ingresados y sus familiares. La recolecta de datos ha ocurrido a través del análisis de la historia clínica y de entrevistas. Resultados: Los participantes demostraron cómo el proceso de la hospitalización y los efectos colaterales del tratamiento interfieren en las relaciones familiares y sociales. Los participantes han demostrado utilizar dos estrategias del enfrentamiento: enfocado al problema y com enfoque en la emoción. Conclusión: Las informaciones obtenidas a traves del estudio sugieren que el tratamiento de quimioterapia interfiere en el confronto de la enfermedad y en el proceso de Resiliencia de los pacientes con neoplasia maligna y de sus familiares. Se ha constatado que el tratamiento contribuye al desarrollo de la resiliencia, promocionando mas utilización de los factores protectores de los individuos.  Introdução: O tratamento quimioterápico gera inúmeras alterações na vida dos pacientes e de seus familiares. Objetivo: Compreender o processo de enfrentamento da doença e a resiliência dos pacientes com câncer, submetidos a tratamento quimioterápico, e de seus familiares. Método: Estudo qualitativo, realizado por meio de análise de caso incorporado, tendo como participantes tres pacientes internados e seus familiares. A coleta de dados ocorreu através da análise de prontuários e de entrevistas. Resultados: Os participantes demonstraram que o processo de internação hospitalar e os efeitos colaterais do tratamento interferem nas suas relações familiares e sociais. Os participantes demonstraram utilizar duas estratégias de enfrentamento: o focado no problema e o focado na emoção. Conclusão: As informações obtidas por intermédio desta pesquisa sugerem que o tratamento quimioterápico interfere no enfrentamento da doença e no processo de resiliência dos pacientes portadores de neoplasia maligna e de seus familiares.
