Resumo: The femur is the longest bone in the human body and plays an important role in supporting the pelvic and general skeleton. Fractures in this bone can be subdivided according to their anatomical regions, which are: fractures of the proximal femur, diaphyseal fractures and fractures of the distal femur. The objective was to investigate the profile of hospitalizations for femur fractures in Brazil, through a retrospective epidemiological study in databases, as well as conducting a survey on the main management / treatment techniques performed for these patients. It is a qualitative research with secondary data and transversal typology of data analysis from the Hospital Information System of the Unified Health System (SIH / SUS), of the Ministry of Health, through the SUS Department of Informatics website for the period the last five years (2015-2020). Hospitalization rates for femur fractures were a total of 510,302 individuals. The age group with the highest incidence was 80 years and over, with the number of 135,467 cases, followed by the age group from 70 to 79 years with 89,230 cases and, in third place in this ranking, the age group from 20 to 29 years with 58,367 cases. There is a spike in incidences between the age group 20 to 29 years, younger patients, many of whom are involved in car accidents; and there is another peak in the age groups of 70 to 79 years and 80 years or more, elderly patients involved in falls. Femoral trauma is a constituent factor of high frequency in the Brazilian territory. Between 20 and 29 years of age and the elderly are the main victims of this affliction, the former being due to automobile accidents and the latter, due to falls from their own height.
