Resumo: Traditionally, it is accepted that the structural change is the great force that sustains long-term growth and that is behind the successful cases of reduction of technological gaps between developed and developing economies. This article offers some comparative evidence infavor of this hypothesis, as well as a simple model in which the links between technological gap, productivity, effective demand and growth can be analyzed.

Este artículo ofrece algunas evidencias comparativas a favor de esa hipótesis. También ofrece un modelo sencillo en que los vínculos entre brecha tecnológica, productividad, demanda efectiva y crecimiento pueden ser analizados.Tradicionalmente, aceita-se que o câmbio estrutural é a grande força que sustenta o crescimento no longo prazo e que está por trás dos casos exitosos de redução de brechas tecnológicas entre as economias desenvolvidas e em desenvolvimento.
