Resumo: One of the biggest challenges facing judicial authorities is the existence of suitable evidence for the conclusion of police investigations. The Forensic Sciences have a series of tools that assist in the expertise in crime places, among which we highlight Papiloscopy, human identification through the papillary ridges, contributing to the search for truth and justice. The objective of this work was to demonstrate the importance of laboratory fingermarks exames for police investigations. For this purpose, the data from the papilloscopic examinations of crime and laboratory sites carried out by police and fingerprint examiners of criminal events in the State of Goiás, from 2017 to 2019, were analyzed, highlighting on the techniques for obtaining fingerprints and the success of identification of suspicious individuals. The results showed that the examinations performed exclusively in the fingerprints laboratory were responsible for 31% of the indication of suspects to the police authority, confirming the importance of this expertise as a crucial tool for police investigations, effectively contributing to Public Security.
