Use of Psychotropic Drugs in the Pandemic Scenario in Almenara-MG

Covid-19 is a highly infectious disease and given its rapid global spread, the WHO announced it as a pandemic that, in addition to physical damage, significantly altered the socio-affective daily life of the general population. Given the necessary health measures that included isolation and social distancing, mental health was directly impacted. The aim of the study was to analyse the increase in consumption, from the dispensing of psychotropic drugs of the benzodiazepine class in a drugstore in Almenara-MG in 2019, compared to 2020 and 2021, with the ongoing pandemic. A literature review was carried out in publications from 2019 to 2021, with 27 works being analysed. The lack of mental well-being triggered negative effects on the population, with medicalization being one of the main mechanisms used to overcome the psychological repercussions imposed by the Covid-19 scenario. The study suggests the relationship between the growth in the sale of these drugs in this drugstore, with the psychosocial effects of the pandemic, and points out the need for alternative measures to deal with the comprehensive damage caused to individuals.
