Induction of parturition in cattle: a literature review

Brazil is among the countries that have a high production in dairy farming, however, there are still many aspects that need to be explored to increase productivity. As a result, the general objective of this article is to discuss the importance of handling and inducing parturition in dairy cows. The methodology used was based on bibliographical, qualitative and descriptive research. The results obtained demonstrated that the induction of parturition is of great importance for the producers, as it allows scheduling the parturitions, synchronizing them and manipulating them in such a way that there is always milk productivity and the profit can be maintained. It is concluded that the selection of dairy cow species, investment in adequate nutrition, veterinary care, monitoring, follow-up and induction of parturition are strategies of great relevance for producers. It is also necessary to expand care for the pregnant female and her newborn. Among the advantages of labor induction, mention should be made of the reduction in gestation time, the newborn's weight, pregnancies with anomalies and the increase in the mother's reproductive efficiency.
