Resumo: | Objective: To identify the knowledge of nursing professionals in the technique of delayed bladder catheterization. Method: This is a literary study, with qualitative and descriptive characteristics, in which a survey of the theoretical framework was carried out in journals of scientific platforms such as: Virtual Health Library (VHL), Scielo (Scientific Electronic Library Online), LILACS ( Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences) and BDENF (nursing database), in a period between 2006 to 2016. Results: The main reasons for using the bladder catheter are urinary retention due to urethral obstruction due to hyperplasia benign prostate, neurogenic bladder where the person lacks bladder control due to a brain disease of the spinal cord or nerves. Conclusion: Upon learning that urethral catheterization is an invasive technique that involves the insertion of a catheter through the urinary meatus to © All rights reserved. Objetivo: Identificar o conhecimento dos profissionais de enfermagem na técnica do cateterismo vesical de demora. Método: Trata-se de um estudo literário, com característica qualitativa e descritiva, na quais foi realizado um levantamento do referencial teórico em periódicos de plataformas científicas como: Biblioteca virtual de saúde (BVS), Scielo (Scientific Eletronic Library Online), LILACS (Literatura Latino-americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde) e BDENF (base de dados de enfermagem), em um período entre 2006 a 2016. Resultados: As principais razões para a utilização do cateter vesical estão retenção urinária por obstrução uretral devido à hiperplasia benigna da próstata, bexiga neurogênica onde a pessoa carece de controle da bexiga devido a uma doença cerebral da medula espinal ou dos nervos.
