Resumo: Mental Disorders represent a group of conditions that have a profound impact on both the affected individuals and their families. The emotional suffering associated with these illnesses can impair the quality of life and functionality of the affected individuals. It is important to emphasize that these conditions affect not only the individuals directly but also the family members and loved ones who live with them. In recent decades, a noticeable increase in the incidence and mortality of mental disorders has been attributed to technological advancement, which, ironically, has led to greater social isolation and a negative impact on mental health. The aim of this study is to analyze the role of nursing in suicide prevention and in assisting the families of victims, considering the rising incidence of mental disorders and the relevance of an interdisciplinary approach. This study adopted a descriptive-exploratory research approach, using the methodology of integrative literature review. Sources such as the Virtual Health Library (VHL), the Nursing Database (BDENF), SCIELO, and LILACS were explored. The results revealed that healthcare professionals, including nurses, often lack adequate training to deal with patients at risk of suicide. Nursing plays a crucial role in suicide prevention and in caring for the families of victims. An interdisciplinary approach is also essential to provide comprehensive and coordinated care. Suicide prevention requires strategies that address both individual and social risk factors, promoting a holistic approach to improving the mental health of the population.
