Resumo: | Objective: To describe the main factors associated with abandonment of tuberculosis treatment. Method: This is an integrative literature review. Searches were carried out in electronic databases: PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science. After the scientific articles were eligible, the databases were identified: removal of duplicates; reading titles; reading of the abstracts and excluding those who did not meet the inclusion criteria after reading them in full. Then, the selected articles were read in full and the main points of analysis of the article were extracted, including the title, objective, main results and conclusion. Results: The reasons for interrupting Tuberculosis (TB) treatment can be attributed mainly to several factors, such as social, biological, economic, cultural and psychosocial aspects. It has been consistently observed in numerous studies that treatment abandonment constitutes a significant risk factor, particularly when combined with a history of prior TB treatment. Final considerations: Therefore, when implementing innovative interventions, the objective is to reinforce patients' adherence to TB treatment. Understanding these factors is essential for healthcare professionals and managers to develop effective strategies that can reduce dropout rates, ultimately leading to a reduction in disease incidence, mortality rates and drug resistance. |
