Resumo: | Introduction: COVID-19 was responsible for thousands of deaths in Brazil and worldwide. In view of this, investigating social determinants and geographic location are strategies that can contribute to certain populations being less exposed to certain conditions, especially in a pandemic context. Objective: To analyze the municipalities with the highest incidence of deaths from COVID-19 in Brazil from April to August 2021. Methodology: This is a cross-sectional and analytical study of secondary data made available by the Diagnostics of America S.A (DASA) - DASA ANALYTICS (dadoscoronavirus.dasa.com.br). The 15 medium- and large-sized municipalities throughout the national territory with the highest death rates from COVID-19 at the end of each month in the period from April to August 2021 were selected. of municipal human development (HDI-M). Results and discussion: The region of the country that had the most municipalities with the highest rates of deaths from COVID-19 is located in the Northeast, North and Southeast, mainly capital cities and nearby cities. During the investigated period, no municipality in the South region was ranked. No association was found between low HDI-M and higher death rates in any of the regions. Conclusion: Considering the reality of large cities, it is believed that the high numbers of deaths from the infection are related to demographic density, since it makes access and care to health services difficult. The expanded discussion regarding the variables that interfered in the mortality rates due to COVID-19 allows for a greater understanding of the territorial characteristics and contributes to the elaboration of intervention strategies and the adoption of security measures and containment of the virus. |
