The humanization process considers a change in the culture of users' attention and in the management of work processes. In other words, humanization is a process that, in addition to promoting humanitarian health care, also seeks physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual comfort for patients, families and professional staff. The main instrument of humanization of health in Brazil comes from the National Humanization Policy, implemented by the Ministry of Health in 2003. Thus, this study aims to investigate the knowledge of nursing professionals and students about this policy and the real understanding of humanization in patient care. The study was designed as a Literature Review based on scientific articles published in the last ten years in free databases available on the internet. Humanization is extremely necessary for nursing professionals, both graduates and students, as it is essential to associate scientific and technical skills with a moral norm that considers and obeys the needs of the user and the professional, thus respecting the limits of both in any situation that requires and produces health acts. In this context, a new way of instructing those working in the area and future professionals is necessary. It is necessary to show the importance of reflection and critical thinking when providing assistance to the patient, also using Humanization as a way of promoting, caring and preserving health.
